Munda (New Georgia Island) - Docking

Munda Docking

Munda is situated in the picturesque Roviana Lagoon. There are no detailed charts for Roviana Lagoon, but Dirk Sieling’s Solomon Islands Cruising Guide has good mud maps for getting around. Most of the reef markers are in place, but it is recommended to keep a good watch in good visibility.

Anchoring

A good anchorage can be found in front of Agnes Lodge, in 8-10 meters, sandy mud, good holding. The Lodge management welcomes yachts, has a restaurant and bar, and 24hr security. Ask for a secure place to leave your dinghy and if you might anchor close to the Lodge for security at night. If you visit the restaurant for food and drinks - this might be possible.

Ashore

Munda has several grocery stores, a BSP bank with ATM, Telecom office, and a police station. There is a fruit and vegetable market most days, the busiest day being Friday and several Chinese shops, the biggest being Solomon brothers. There are some hardware stores and a a Yamaha parts shop, plus a dive gear shop.

Fuel is available at several waterfront vendors.

There is exceptional diving in the area with pelagic wall dives and World War 2 wrecks. Dive Munda operates out of Agnes Lodge. They have a special Yachtie rate and do pick-ups from yachts. They also offer broadband Wi-Fi to divers.

Bars and restaurants include Agnes Lodge and Wonderland Cafe. There is a very interesting World War II Museum here.
