Otago Harbour, Dunedin - Docking

Moorings in Otago Harbour:

The Otago Regional Council has two swing moorings available that can be used by visiting vessels. They are available at:

  • Careys Bay:  position 45’48.329S 170’37.683E.  Maximum vessel length of 20 metres and a maximum draught of 2.5 metres.
  • Deborah Bay  - position:  45’48.142S 170’37.782E.  Maximum vessel length of 12 metres and a maximum draught of 1.5 metres.

Arrive anytime from 15:00 (3pm) on your booked day of arrival and depart with your vessel by 15:00 (3pm) on your booked day of departure.

You can currently book one visitor mooring at one location for up to 48 hours for free. You can only book a maximum of 48 hours (two days) at one location within a 30-day period for your vessel. If you wish to moor your vessel at any of the two visitor moorings beyond 48 hours, please contact the the Otago City Council's Harbourmaster team by email to:  harbourmaster@orc.govt.nz.

Otago Yacht Club Boat Harbour

Access to the Otago Yacht Club's boat harbour is only tenable approx 2hrs either side of high tide for boats with 2m draft or more. It is advisable to arrange your arrival in the upper harbour to comply with this restriction. A temporary anchorage while waiting for the tide is suggested at Careys Bay adjacent to the Fishermans wharf well clear of the shipping channel.
