Le Marin - Docking

Aug 01, 2024

Anchorages:

Authorities are enforcing 'no anchoring' areas in the traditional hurricane holes (except in the case of hurricane warnings). The areas off-limits will be marked by yellow buoys. Anchorage may still be taken on the western side of the harbour outside of the channel.

Baie des Cyclones: (14° 27' 23'' N 61° 52' 6'' W): A well-protected hurricane hole.

St. Anne: (14° 26' 6'' N 61° 53' 14'' W): Not as well protected as the inner anchorages but the anchorage here is off a small town and while busy, there is plenty of space as it’s very big. Clearance is possible and it's easy to catch a bus into Marin for provisioning.

There is a concrete dinghy dock in the town and a floating dock in front of the Pirates Bar Restaurant (only open for lunch). It's a 5 min walk to town from here. There are rubbish bins on both sides of the restaurant. Recycling bins are only available in town.

According to CSSN, the St. Anne anchorage/dinghy dock is the most active for the region, with not just dinghies being stolen but also items such as anchors and chain rode along with fuel tanks and lines.   See Martinique/Security for the latest details.

Le Marin:  Est and Ouest (14° 28' 48'' N 61° 52' 6'' W): Close to all the services, can be crowded.

Moorings:

In St Anne and Le Marina, more and more mooring balls are being installed and more are planned. Anchoring is being actively discouraged.

Dinghy Docks:

The two dinghy docks in the marina (near the supermarket, shops, ATM, rubbish bins etc.) are now closed. There is a new dinghy dock north of the marina in front of Indigo Restaurant.

The SSCA report that strict dinghy speed limits are being enforced in the inner harbor. Violations are being ticketed after radar monitoring was installed in June 2025.

Marinas:

The yacht harbor here is one of the largest in the Caribbean with 650 berths. Staff are bilingual. Whilst 220vt electricity is included in the berthing fee, water is reported to be expensive. WiFi is charged as extra. Pontoon gates are controlled by key card, however, they are seldom closed, so security is not ideal. Be sure to secure anything left on deck and your dinghy and associated gear at all times.

Security:

Dinghy and outboard thefts continue to be reported from this anchorage as well as from boats in the marina and from the Mango dinghy dock.    Do not leave anything in the water without any security measures including dinghies as well as kayaks and stand up paddleboards.. Be sure to lift and chain lock dinghies and outboards at night when at anchor or on a mooring and secure any other water sports equipment as well that you have on board, particularly if leaving the vessel overnight or for any length of time.  Even when going ashore, ensure that your dinghy and outboard are secure.

In incidents reported to CSSN in 2022, dinghies that were chained and locked to dinghy docks in St. Anne were stolen while the respective owners and crew were ashore. Several dinghies tied at up the dinghy dock in St. Anne were slashed in an overnight vandalism attack. (see security reports for details).

Thefts have also been reported from yachts that have been left unattended while owners are away.  Thieves have come well prepared - See the latest Security Reports.
