Electricity:

  • Voltage: 220 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz

Water:

Available at all harbors.

Fuel:

Available at Reykjavik. By jerry can at other harbors.

Haulout & Repairs:

Boatyard and repair services in Reykjavik. Reykjavík has excellent diesel and electronic technicians who are familiar with maintaining the fishing fleets. It is easy to import spares, and if parts are delivered directly to a yacht in transit, the owner can avoid paying taxes. Snarfari Marina, a few miles from the center of Reykjavík, stores boats ashore and a crane can be hired.

Overwintering:

It is possible, by prior arrangement, to book a berth right in the heart of Reykjavík through the harbormaster, who allocates a few alongside berths in the dock’s NW corner (adjacent to the Maritime Museum). The pontoons at the sailing club are removed as the Autumn storms approach. Offers good protection, but take care with the rough wharf covered with tyres, you will need to fender well, and take into account the 3m tide. You can weight your fenders down using old car tyres to prevent them rising up as the tide falls. If given the option, it is wise to raft outside a fishing boat for the winter. These berths are serviced with water and electricity, which means that dehumidifiers can be left on to protect against Reykjavík’s long, wet winter. Winter storms bring savage winds (above 100 knots) and significant snowfall.

If you prefer to haul out, Snarfari Marina, a few miles from the center of Reykjavík, stores boats ashore and has a marina that can accommodate boats with a shallow draft. A crane can be hired, and, it is recommended to lower your mast (DIY as there are no professional rigging services). If leaving a boat cover on, it is recommended that this is as low profile as possible as the wind will quickly shred anything slung over the boom.

    COVID 19

Iceland is open for UK/EU pleasure crafts. As for now there is a 14 days quarantine that begins when you left the last port before reaching Iceland, and includes the time being at sea.
No later than June 15th there will be testing (or quarantine) for all incoming visitors and nationals, made by the Landspitali teams, in Reykjavik area. Tests will be free until end of June, after this the cost will be 50 000 ISK per test. Results are expected within 24h.

It is also important to note the exact definition of quarantine in Iceland : it only means you cannot meet other people (than the ones you are living in with) and so you can take your boat and sail, walk ashore, and so on, as long as you do not meet other people, especially inside buildings.
