Guanaja - Docking

May 14, 2023

When going ashore, you will probably run into a “guide” who will show you around, expect a tip and speak good English.

Anchorages:

El Bight: The most protected and popular anchorage is 1NM from Bonacca Town, the main settlement.  Anchor in 20 ft over sand with excellent wind protection.

Josh Cay (AKA Graham's Cay): A good anchorage with good holding in the sand, protected by the reef and the cay. There is a nice open air restaurant here also.

Mangrove Bight: Located on the northern coast. The hills offer protection from E-SE winds and cruisers report strong holding with no surge and no roll. The Clearwater Paradise resort is reported to welcome cruising boats.

Dinghy Dock:

Located to the south side of the warehouse "big sales" with the pangas.

Security:

A yacht anchored off Graham's Cay was boarded by armed men and robbed in April 2017. See this report.
