WARNING: DONT GO TO MARINA BAS-DU-FORT

The marina Bas-du-Fort is the most unprofessional marina I ever met. We have booked a slip 5 months in advance and got a written confirmation. Trusting in that we booked flights to Europe and made some contractors appointments. I got in touch with the marina 4 days before arrival by coincidence and they told me that they cancelled our reservation. They totally ignored that we had flights, commitments and safety issues. Not the slightest support was offered.

They simply forgot to inform me on time to give me the chance to meet other arrangements. Instead of confessing that they messed that up they started lying and talking bullshit about “force major” which was 100% not the case. This marina management caused us serious issues and costs.

We got some exchange afterwards with other sailors with local knowledge and they had only words about a bad reputation and incompetence for the marina management. We cannot disagree.

This terrible and dishonest marina management cost not only us a lot of money but also the Guadeloupe economy. We will never go there again. However don’t trust any statements, not even in writing.

The international airport is just over a mile north of the town. There are connections to other Caribbean islands, the US and France.

Buses serve most parts of the island. Taxis and hire cars are available.

Ferries leave daily for Iles des Saintes and Marie Galante from Darse de Pointe à Pître, quai Gatine.
