Gibraltar Port - Docking

Nov 16, 2022

ALERT: Russian vessels are banned from Gibraltar port.

The shortage of berthing for yachts in Gibraltar itself is an on-going problem.

Anchoring:

Anchoring off La Linea (Spain) is possible just outside the marina, but only for a couple of days. It's likely after this time you will be asked to move on.

Anchoring in Gibraltar port is not permitted.

Dinghy thefts are frequent, be sure to lift the dinghy out of the water at night and lock it.

Marinas:

There are docking facilities at Queensway Quay Marina, Ocean Village Marina and Marina Bay. The last two are neighbouring marinas, part of a wider residential and leisure complex, and are now administered as one.

All marinas are busy in the high season and offer reduced winter rates. Advance bookings recommended.

Ocean Village/Marina Bay:

  • Close to the border overlooking the airport runway, next to an entertainment facility with restaurants and bars. Chandlery close by.
  • Entrance to both marinas is via the south side of the airport runway marked with red channel buoys - which must be used at all times. Follow the runway along.
  • Entrance into Marina Bay is on the left (keep following red channel buoys), Ocean Village berths are either straight ahead or slightly to the right. Contact the marina when coming down the runway and they will allocate a berth and assist with tie-up.
  • Ocean Village has floating docks and has improved its facilities over the last year. Individual bathrooms, clean and new, some with a bath. Prices reasonable.
  • Marina Bay has med moorings with very high concrete piers.

Queensway Quay Marina:

  • Residential marina surrounded by luxury apartments, restaurants, shops and bar - 10 to 15 minute walk to get anywhere.
  • The entrance to Queensway Quay marina has been moved to the northern end of the breakwater.
  • Ragged Staff Wharf, as the quayside at Queensway Quay Marina is called, was built in the 1700's and is probably the oldest wharf in Gibraltar.
  • This marina tends to be quieter as it's farthest from the airport.

The marina previously known as Sheppard's was sold for the development of the Ocean Village Marina Complex. Sheppard's chandlery continues to operate from the same site, but the boatyard repair facilities have been moved to Coaling Island.
