Bulgaria Weather for Sailors

Bulgaria has a temperate climate - influenced by its Mediterranean subtropical location and the Black Sea in the east. It is hot and sunny from May to October, with air temperatures reaching 28 Celsius. The prevailing winds of summer are northeast, although there is a daily alternation of land and sea breezes.

The winter is rainy and cold. The mountains offer great snow sport conditions from December through to March - air temperature averages 3 Celsius. Be advised of possible heavy snowfall, rain, and avalanches.

The saline content of the Black Sea is low, just 16% to 17% in the coastal waters, and the high and low tides are minimal. During the summer, the average water temperature is 22° to 24° С, and in the shallower areas as warm as 26°С, which makes it particularly pleasant for swimming.
