Where is South-West Bay?

A huge anchorage on the south-west corner of Malekula Island which lies between the islands of Efate and Espiritu Santo.  This bay is well protected from SE trade winds with three different communities, all accessible from it.

Cruiser Highlights for South West Bay:

If you are visiting any of the villages or partaking in any activities that they may organise,  it is customary to pay a reasonable fees to the communities/village chief.

Lembinwen village will provide a welcome ceremony and a dinghy tour to the small lake which is accessible via a narrow twist in the river.

About 1 nm to the north is Lawa village where you can get a cultural tour including a guided forest visit and a performance of one of the famous Nalawan dances (the full annual Nalawan festival  is held in August)

A short dinghy ride . In the afternoon south the ‘10 Stick’ community on the 10-stick rocky islet.   Contact Ronald, the chief and snorkel to see giant clams & turtles.

The Nalawan Festival is held in August in South West Bay and celebrates the island’s culture and heritage.   Unique activities are performed such as spectacular custom dances
