More Information On Spanish Port Fees
A sailor who recently visited Marina Atlantico in Tenerife writes:
“There appears to be confusion regarding the lighthouse tax that is being charged at Marina Atlantico in Tenerife even amongst other marinas in the Canary Islands.
I moved recently from Atlantico after having paid the full years lighthouse tax and having receipts to show this. On presentation of these receipts at the marina that I have now moved to the staff there informed me that this charge should not be prorated over 50 days, but should be charged on a daily basis: the total divided by the 365 days.
I was urged to seek an explanation from Atlantico as this method of collection is causing problems amongst other marinas and, if what I was told is correct, is the wrong way to apply the tax.
The aspect that affects visiting yachts is that we are being unfairly overcharged.
Below is a schedule of payment pasted from a previous email to Noonsite of this subject and the schedule that Atlantico is charging.
20% of the yearly rate upon first entry in a Spanish harbor, this is supposed to cover the next 10 days.
after 10 days another %20 which covers next 10 days
after 50 days, you have paid the rate for the whole year and are not supposed to be charged anymore.”
