A pier, some 1200m in length, has been built out from the Kilindoni shore. It is possible to alight here from a dinghy onto a barge, which is tied up at the end of the pier, although perhaps with some difficulty. The other option is to take your dinghy to the beach next door. With the right sea conditions, you could go alongside with a yacht. The walk along the pier takes you into town.
Yachts can anchor in an area NW of the end of the pier.
Cruisers have reported that the Port Captain will make a charge if you come ashore here or use any of the port facilities (pier, barge, beach etc.). The charge is approx. US$15.
Yachts can also anchor opposite the Maisara Mafia beach lodge and enjoy the facilities there. Hassan is happy to welcome yachties and has a beach bar with good food and can help organise diesel and tours/excursions.
