Description:
Liapari Island borders the southern end of Vella Lavella Island in the Western Province. It is just 14 miles from Gizo, the second largest city in the Solomons.
Cruiser Highlights:
There are dozens of sandy and coral island anchorages and diving spots close to Liapari including Kennedy Island (where the late US President John Kennedy swam to after being shipwrecked). Cruisers recommend this as a base for cyclone season.
Noel Hudson who ran Liapari Marina and was well known to many cruisers died in February 2022 but the marina's new owners intend to keep Liapari running as a safe marina and anchorage for sailors from around the world. Haul out for mono-hulls only, machine shop, welding and woodworking shop, engineering services and a trade store. Accommodation on site and a fortnightly shopping trip to Gizo (on a Friday).

The channel leading to this marine facility has a depth of 11 feet at high tide.
