Specific areas of concern:
Some areas of central and southern Peru, especially the Puno region, which includes Lake Titicaca, have recently been impacted by civil unrest.
Violent crime is common, particularly in Lima, Cusco and Arequipa.
In Lima, demonstrations frequently take place in the historic center, where entry may be restricted, though they may also extend elsewhere. There have also been recent protests in Cusco, Arequipa, Ayacucho, La Libertad, Madre de Dios, and Puno.
Protests occasionally cause the suspension or disruption of some train services in the south, including those to and from Machu Picchu.
For the current security situation, check the Iperu website (the official source of information for tourists in Peru) or call them at +511 574 8000 (option 2 for English).
