Klaipeda - Bio Security

Feb 05, 2025

Description:

Klaipėda is the most northerly ice-free port in the eastern Baltic Sea. It is located at the northern end of the long strip of land running parallel to the coast from Klaipėda to Kaliningrad, about 90NM to the south.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

  • Klaipeda harbor entrance is very narrow and high seas might be expected from wind strength F6 and above. Normally there is a northerly current running approximately 0.2-0.3 knots at the entrance.
  • There are no hidden obstacles around breakwaters and in the Harbor Channel and there is deep water even close to the moles.
  • TSS (Traffic Separation Scheme) is applied in the vicinity of Klaipeda Harbour.
  • The approach channel constantly moves, so it is advisable to call the Yacht Club or marina in advance. Care should be taken to keep to the marked channel to avoid the mud banks and unmarked fishing nets. Yachts with a draught of up to two meters are usually o.k.

Position:

55° 43'45"N, 21° 04'20"E (harbor entrance)
