Report from the Mombasa Yacht Club:
We have not had moorings for many years now, and the jetty vanished in 1997. English point was our recommended mooring point however they have yet to finish their marina.
I would recommend at this time not entering Mombasa at all.
We have had a constant war with the Kenya Ports Authority on yachts entering Kenya through Mombasa Port. It is likely to cost in excess of USD$2,000 to come in, which is quite frankly stupid.
Visiting yachts should enter Kenya through Shimoni in the south, although there is minimal facilities there and the cost is about USD$4. Better still is to enter through Kilifi where there is good facilities (no dockage), good moorings and Peter Bateman at the Kilifi Boat Yard is very helpful. They will arrange clearance to come from Watamu and the whole process is about USD$120.
Kilifi has a yacht club with food and beverage facilities inside the boatyard and almost every sailing yacht in Kenya is moored there.
