Aasiaat - Docking

There is no dedicated docking for yachts here.

Anchoring:

There are several places to anchor: Larger yachts tend to anchor off the town behind ‘Tørveøen’; others anchor in the harbour, off the pier at the old fishery site or off the new pier in the harbour (see photo below).

Dinghies:

There are two public pontoons where a dinghy can be left when you go ashore. Two pontoons normally are used for refueling – one in the harbour and one in the western fjord ‘Tipitoq’ (again see photos).

Ashore:

Hotel SØMA on the harbour waterfront next to the boatyard, serves good food and you can use their Wifi while having a coffee. For a fee you can arrange a shower there and to do laundry. Find out more at https://hotelsoma.gl/da/aasiaat/ or e-mail: [email protected].

In the town there is a sports facility which also offers showers, sauna etc.

The hotel operate the boatyard, Sisak Teknik, where you can haul out a boat for the winter. It’s possible to get work done by the yard or to do it yourself. Liveaboards welcome. In fact it is recommended to stay on board, or stay near the boat, if leaving it here for the winter to avoid damage. Contact them at [email protected].

See these useful photo diagrams showing the anchorages and facilities in the harbor (provided by Bo Mogensen).

    Bo Mogensen says:

    Aasiaat – general info
Due global warming the ice season are longer like from april to january.
In Aasiaat there is an airfield with daily connections to Kangerlussuaq/Copenhagen or the rest of Greenland.
There is a yard, often used by sailors during the winter either when they travel home or when they are checking the boat.
Some sailors winter in the sea around the city, and it is possible if you are living in the boat.
Aasiaat normally has cargo ships all year except for the tiny season february/march where there might be ice.
