This marina is located approx. 9 miles up the estuary. There are no docks, just mooring buoys, but it is well protected from wind and swell, a very calm section of the estuary with a definite flow with the tide change. There is a dinghy dock, showers, restaurant, and pool, but the other facilities are now closed. No shipyard or travel lift available at this time.
The marina is located in a wildlife reserve. While we were here we were able to feed bananas to wild spider monkeys, bird watch, and help release baby turtles. The staff is very helpful and friendly and the manager, Meri, speaks English. There is also a swimming pool and hammocks for relaxing.
Provisioning is easy in Usulutan, a 20 min ride away, and a van from the marina takes guests for free on Tuesday and Friday. Marine parts must be obtained from San Salvador.
Many local attractions are available for side trips inland, and rental cars can be delivered to the marina.
Be sure to call ahead to arrange for a pilot boat to guide you to the marina. The marina does not always listen to the radio if no one is expected to arrive. We were only able to reach them by phone, 503-2675-1131. The current rendezvous point for the pilot boat as of May 2016 is 13degrees 07.126N by 88degrees 24.977W.
The pilot boat will guide you through the deeper water around the shoaling entrance and up the estuary to the mooring. Cost is $45 for first day, which includes the pilot service. Each day thereafter is $17.
All officials come to the boat to check you into the country and the cost is minimal.
Rental apartments are available as well. No electric service available, but fuel dock is next to marina and water may be obtained there as well. We very much enjoyed our visit here and hope more boats will stop in to visit this little gem.
