Port Ghalib - General Info

Oct 07, 2022

Description:

Port Ghalib is on the southern part of Egypt's Red Sea coast, 85 km from Kusier and 60 km from Marsa Alam.

The Port Ghalib Marina is an artificial harbor, part of a tourist resort, located in a quiet desert-looking landscape. It opened in 2002 and can accommodate up to 1000 yachts. Port Ghalib caters to dive tourism with all tourists staying in resorts, so local atmosphere and services are sparse. The marina has clearance officials on site.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

Try to e-mail Port Ghalib at least 24 hours prior to arrival and call Port Control on VHF Ch. 16 or Ch. 10 when you are a few hours away to give your boat name, flag, number of persons on board etc. They will probably tell you to call them back when you are one hour from the entrance buoys unless you are asked to wait in Marsa Umbark 2 miles south of the entrance.

The fairway buoy (LFW every 10 sec's) is visible on radar at 5M.

The natural entrance channel has been extended. It is wide and runs almost due E/W for 800m x 99m through the fringing reef and is marked by lit port and starboard hand buoys.

Port Ghalib closes every day at 16:00.

Cruisers warn that costs are high here.

Position:
