Dandong, formerly known as Andong, is a coastal city in the Liaoning province, in the northeastern region of the People's Republic of China. The city is located on the banks of the Yalu River Delta in the Shandong Province. It was established as a base for developing the Delta and the Shengli Oil Field and is close to the border with North Korea.
The city of Dandong is situated some 22 miles (35 km) from the mouth of the Yalu River.
