Braye - Docking

The harbour provides good shelter except in strong NE or E winds. If such conditions are forecast, it is best to leave, if possible, as the harbour can be untenable.

Anchoring:

There is an anchorage in the middle of the bay with good holding in sand, rock and weed. In general, the closer to the harbour entrance the more the bottom becomes rocky. There is a large tidal range at Springs here (up to 6.9m), so be sure to put out plenty of scope.

There is a small daily charge for anchoring (£5 – 2019).

It is not permitted to anchor in the Fairway or close to Braye Jetty, or to tie up to Braye Jetty.

Moorings:

There are 70 large yellow visitors’ buoys, most of which have pick-up strops. In good weather, it is possible to raft up on these buoys. There is a daily charge for moorings (£15 – 2019).

Dinghy Docks:

The dinghy pontoon is located close to the Harbormaster’s office at the SW end of the harbor, near the entrance to Little Crabby Harbor.

There is a water taxi service run by the Alderney Harbor Office which runs from 08:00 to midnight. Hail them on Channel 73 or call 07781 121 046.

Ashore:

Showers, toilets, launderette, telephones, chandlers and rubbish disposal are all located close to the Harbormaster’s office. The launderette is in the same building as the showers, and uses £1 coins – both are open 24 hours a day in the summer, but the showers are closed in the winter.

St Anne’s is the only town on Alderney and is a 20 minute walk uphill from the harbour.

Marinas:

Plans have been dropped for the construction of a 24-hour tidal access marina in Alderney.
