There is not really a public transport system as such, people use Tuk-Tuk or motorcycle taxi (moto). Foreigners walking or travelling on local transport are generally at risk from bag snatchers or robbery. Keep to well-lit public areas at night. However road traffic accidents are more of a risk for visitors.
