We visited Tobago 13 APR  – 20 APR 2014 and here is an update.

We arrived at Charlotteville at the weekend and had to pay overtime fees. There is no point waiting for the next day to avoid this because they pay attention to yachts coming and leaving. Overtime Customs was 203TT and Immigration was 100TT. In addition, we paid 50TT to customs as the normal fee.

There are areas in the harbor that says anchoring is prohibited on my chart. The reason is that the locals from time to time fish with a net there. The customs man told us that they do not like to forbid yachts to anchor there. Yachts just need to move when the locals are going to fish with their nets. We anchored in Pirate Bay and during our stay, no fishermen were fishing there. They only fished south of the main pier in town. Close to the fishermen´s moorings, there are coral heads and I know yachts that tried to anchor there were asked to move further out.

We took the boat to Speyside and anchored in Anse Batau, a very nice anchorage with good holding. In Speyside, we found a local dive center, Spencer´s Underwater Adventure. We negotiated a good price, and I think it is better to do that with a local diver than with the big dive centers.  Contact details for Spencer [email protected] (checks a few times a week), phone: 1(868)383-3917

We visited Scarborough by bus, and I must say that Charlotteville is a much better choice. A slow, small fishing village where the people have plenty of time.

There is a water tap (portable) on the pier in town, and it is possible for a yacht to go alongside if the local boats are out. I would recommend a filter as there are a few small particles in the water.
