On the night of July 18, 2026, a severe safety incident occurred in the Anse Cochon anchorage on the Caribbean island of St Lucia, when a center-cockpit yacht was boarded by six to eight men around 0030HRS while the crew was asleep.
A male intruder forced his way into the salon, became highly aggressive, and attacked the captain with a wine bottle. The captain suffered life-threatening injuries to his head, neck, arms and hands from broken glass during the assault before the attackers retreated, stole several items—including knives, a flashlight, and a handheld VHF radio—and fled via an offloading boat.
The crew secured the vessel, administered emergency first aid, and contacted local authorities. Marine Police responded swiftly to transport the captain to the hospital for life-saving surgery.The boarding coincided with a chaotic maritime emergency in the area, as two local Carnival party boats had collided at high speed off Anse Cochon shortly before the attack, resulting in four fatalities and fourteen injuries.
