Sweden’s Rules if coming from an EU country

Dogs and Cats must:

• have a European pet passport
• be identified with a microchip, or tattoo
• be vaccinated against rabies

Pets must be reported to Swedish Customs when passing the border. This does not apply to dogs from Norway. The animal must also meet the entry and departure requirements of the Swedish Agricultural Agency.

If you are traveling with your pet from Andorra, Gibraltar, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Northern Ireland, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, and Vatican City, you must complete a pet owner declaration form.

It is possible to bring puppies from Norway into Sweden as long as they meet the requirements for ID marking and passports.

Sweden’s Rules if coming from outside the EU

To introduce a pet from a third country, you must enter with your pet through one of the designated Travelers’ Points of Entry.

If you are coming from countries outside the EU where the rabies situation is documented and monitored, your dogs and cats must:

• be identified with a microchip, or tattoo
• have a valid vaccination against rabies
• have a Health Certificate from an official veterinarian or in  some cases, an EU pet passport

If you are transporting a cat from Australia, you must certify in writing that the cat has not been kept in facilities where there have been cases of Hendra disease in the last 60 days prior to the travel.

Due to Nipah disease, bringing dogs, cats, and ferrets from Malaysia is prohibited. However, you can bring in an animal from Malaysia if you can meet the additional requirements.

If you are coming from countries outside the EU where the rabies situation is not under control, your dogs and cats must:

• be identified with a microchip, or tattoo
• have a valid vaccination against rabies
• must undergo a titre test. The laboratory must be approved for antibody testing for rabies.
• have a Health Certificate from an official veterinarian or in  some cases, an EU pet passport

You must fill in a pet owner’s declaration for pets.
