Monaco Facts for Sailors

  • Monaco is a small independent principality lying on the southern coast of France, surrounded by the French department of the Alpes Maritimes.
  • French is the language spoken by the population of 39,000.
  • The Euro is the official currency.
  • Monaco operates on Central European Standard Time (UTC +1)
  • The country has a temperate climate, which is mild and sunny for more than 300 days a year. For more details see Weather.
  • The main attraction is the Principality of Monaco itself. It is opulent and attracts the rich and famous.
  • A full range of services is available in the main port, where several workshops are located on its south side. The latter is geared more to dealing with large yachts, so cruising boats may find Fontvielle less intimidating. For more details of yachting services see Yachting Essentials.
