Poland - Health
The medical services in Poland are good and of an equivalent standard to those in other EU countries. Private medical facilities are comparatively inexpensive and of a good standard.
During a stay in Poland, free medical services are offered to citizens of the EU and four EFTA (European Free Trade Association) states: Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Tourists from these states should get the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before travelling.
When applying for a Polish visa, citizens of non-EU countries should take out health insurance that will be valid in all Member States (or in the countries to which the visa applies) for the duration of the planned stay or transit. The minimum insurance amount is EUR 30,000.
Apart from healthcare paid for by the National Health Fund, Poland has well-developed private health services. A visit to a GP will cost you between 80 and 150 zloty ($20-$40), depending on the kind of advice you seek, and the region you are in.
Vaccine-Preventable-Diseases:
- Make sure you are up-to-date on all routine vaccines before the trip.
- Everyone 5 years of age and older should get fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before travel.
- Vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B, measles and rabies are also recommended.
Other Disease Concern:
Tick-borne encephalitis is common in Poland, especially if you are planning to visit forested areas in the summer months.
Food and Water Concerns:
Drinking Water in Poland is “sanitarily satisfactory” according to the WTO. However, most people boil the water before drinking it to avoid a slight trace of chlorine.
There is plenty of choice of bottled water in every supermarket in Poland.
Prescription Medicines:
A wide variety of painkillers, vitamins and cold treatments can be bought without prescription in any Polish supermarket, drugstore or kiosk. As well as Polish-produced medicines, products from the best-known international pharmaceutical manufacturers are also readily available. To obtain medicines which have been prescribed by a doctor, you must visit a pharmacy (apteka).

In case of accident you may call an ambulance, using the number 999, or 112 from a mobile phone.

Along the polish coast there is a large number of military shooting ranges, which are mapped as forbidden areas. These areas however are only forbidden during exercises. Internet site https://bhmw.gov.pl/en/warnings/current/ has a map of the military activities and other navigational warnings. Additionally a PDF can be downloaded for each area with the dates the area is closed. The PDF is in Polish and English

Just four miles S from Dziwnow breakwater and bridge which opens any even hour. Follow the buoyed channel which is 2m deep.
