Denmark - Customs
Arriving By Yacht:
EU regulations apply concerning the temporary importation of yachts. See Noonsite’s EU VAT page for more information.
Other Items:
- Firearms must be declared.
- You are permitted to bring flare guns, but ownership is subject to a firearm owner’s permit and a European Firearms Pass. During transport, the ammunition must be kept separate from the weapon, and it is prohibited to take flare guns off board.
- If you arrive in Denmark from a country outside the EU, you should avoid bringing animal foods such as milk, meat, eggs, cheese, honey, shellfish etc. in both raw and processed form.
- If a yacht has a large number of dutiable goods in excess of the allowed limits, the stores must be placed under Customs seal and re-exported aboard the yacht. A deposit must be paid, which will be refunded after departure from Danish waters by returning the certificate supplied by the Danish customs office after it has been stamped by Customs on arrival in the next country confirming that the same amount of goods are on board.
- If you enter or leave Denmark with cash or other monetary instruments equal to a value of EUR 10,000 (approx. DKK 75,000) or more, you must declare the amount to the Danish Customs Agency (Toldstyrelsen).

Nexo is a good port of call, on the west side of Bornholm: although mainly fishing, there are spaces for visiting yachts either in box berths or with a line to a stern buoy.
Visit the harbourmaster to pay (+45 56 49 22 50): walk north (right) along the frontage; take the first left; the office is 100m on the left. In the season, watch for the ferry arriving with around 100 cyclists + bikes getting off & the same number getting on: a sight to behold.
Don’t expect to be received by a harbourmaster in a Danish yacht harbor, just find a free berth – normally marked with a green sign (red means that the regular owner will return the same day) look for messages like “free until date so and so”. In many yacht harbor, you then have to report to a self-service machine to pay your harbor fee and get a key for the toilet and bath.
Just follow the instruction on the machine, they are normally at least written in Danish, German and English. You can stay for a long period in a Danish yacht harbor without ever seeing the harbourmaster. In fishing harbors, a harbourmaster can be present – but no guarantee.
