Extensive Air, Land and Maritime Operations

This biennial, large-scale military exercise, involving over 30,000 personnel and platforms from 19 nations, is set to be the largest iteration yet. It will involve extensive air, land and maritime operations across various locations in Australia, primarily in Queensland.

Key areas of maritime impact are expected along the Queensland coast, including:

  • Shoalwater Bay Training Area and offshore extensions: This will be a primary focus for amphibious landings, live-fire drills, and high-density air and sea operations. Temporary Restricted Areas (TRAs) and Temporary Military Operating Areas (TMOAs) will be active.
  • Cowley Beach: Proposed TRAs will be in effect to safely separate civilian vessels from military flying activities, particularly between July 12-18, 2025.
  • Port facilities in Queensland: Including Brisbane, Gladstone and Alma Ports, will see increased military vessel movements.
  • Bowen: Previously, maritime exclusion zones have been established in the vicinity of Kings Beach, Bowen, during Talisman Sabre exercises to facilitate ship-to-shore movements and other military activities. Mariners should anticipate similar restrictions this year.

Mariners are strongly advised to:

  • Consult official Notices to Mariners (NOTAMs) which will provide precise details on activated exclusion zones, restricted areas, and specific timings for all maritime and airspace closures.
  • Maintain a safe distance from all military vessels and training areas.
  • Be aware of increased military air traffic, including helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, operating at various altitudes, particularly near coastal training zones.
  • Exercise heightened vigilance and maintain a continuous watch for military vessels and activities.
  • Be prepared for potential delays or re-routing of voyages.
  • Cooperate fully with authorities and military personnel.

Further information and updates will be disseminated through official channels. Mariners are urged to stay informed to ensure their safety and the smooth conduct of this vital exercise.
