Nauru Maritime and Port Authority (NMPA) are available to assist vessels in distress or vessels seeking assistance, however the resources to assist yachts is limited. During periods of bad weather Nauru does not have a safe or suitable anchorage and all moorings are exposed to the open water. The small boat harbour has a shallow draft (2m) and is unusable during bad weather. Emergency assistance to remove distressed crew from a yacht is possible but there is no soft shore to beach a yacht with the whole coast ringed with deep water and reef. NMPA can provide provisions for yachts, but island pricing reflects the isolation.
