
Moored in Agios Efstratios, one of the most remote inhabited Aegean Islands, at the very end of October, sheltering from a deep depression, Rupert had prepped his boat thoroughly for the storm force winds forecast. A lull in the weather, however, was a missed opportunity to get out of the harbour and safely to sea. When the next front came through with a change of wind direction, Rupert found himself trapped in the harbour with a bucking surging boat, broken lines, popped fenders and more dangerous than in any other situation in the 70,000 miles he had sailed.
