Indonesia Visas: How to Obtain a Social Visa in Dili, East Timor (Timor Leste)

Procedure to get an Indonesian Social Visa in Dili, Timor Leste ( East Timor)

1. Fill out the application that you get from them ( specially numbered  so one for each person, not just copies or printed from online) in Black ink only

2. Red background passport pictures ( 1 each) obtainable at many places in town for 2$ US

3. Handwrite a letter saying why you are going to Indonesia and for how long.

If you want more than the standard 30 days, then have your sponsor write a letter specifically requesting 60 days. Requesting this only in your own letter will not be sufficient and you will only be given 30 days.

4. 50$ per person

It takes 3 full working days to get. Example: submit on Friday morning, get back on Wednesday morning. Exact hours to pick up and drop off are posted on the door. Get there early – lines get long.

5. A sponsor’s letter is only required if you want a visa for 60 days.

No CAIT required.

When you return, you are given a “Visit Visa”…which is their name for a “Social Visa”. It is valid on entry for 30 days (or 60 days) and can be renewed 4 times. If you requested 60 days, then you will probably have an interview. You must enter Indonesia within 90 days of getting the visa.

You will know you have the right visa if it is returned with ‘211/30 days’  (or 211/60 days) three-quarters of the way down the page on the left. The 211 means it is a social visa. Any other number is a bad sign…inquire. But everyone was getting 211…it may be the only thing they give except work and diplomat visas.
