Montenegro - Profile
- In June 2006 the people of Montenegro voted to become independent and no longer be allied to the Serbian republic in the union of "Serbia and Montenegro".
- The main attraction of Montenegro's coast is the spectacular Gulf of Kotor, the longest fjord in southern Europe, and long sandy beaches around the popular resorts of Budva and Ulcinj.
- A cruising permit is required for Montenegro. It is available on arrival. The cost has varied in the last few years; sometimes expensive, sometimes less so.
- Fuel is however cheap and new marina facilities are on the increase.
Montenegro is a safe destination for travellers, although it is wise to take sensible precautions against street crime in the towns and cities, as you would in any country.
