  Falmouth : Profile

Location

No cruise to the West Country is complete without a visit to this famous sea-faring town, with its attractive cobbled streets and alleys. Even without the town, the harbour and its various rivers are worth exploring, not forgetting its near neighbour, The Helford River. It is very easy to spend a week or two here!

Docking

This harbour can be entered in all weathers, day or night.

Falmouth Harbour offers a wide range of mooring options from pontoon berths in the middle of the town to quiet anchorages, and all types in between.

There are visitors' mooring buoys are available in the yacht anchorage off the Town Quay, at Mylor, at Malpas, and off St Mawes, in the Percuil River (apply to St Mawes Sailing Club for these). There are 4 marinas, and, additionally, several island pontoons (April-October only) where visitors can berth. There is one in the anchorage off the town and another couple further up the Fal, where the river narrows, beyond Restronguet Creek.

Anchoring is unrestricted, except close to the commercial docks.

A new marina known as Port Falmouth Marina, east of the Port Pendennis Marina, close to the commercial docks.

In the Helford River, there are 25 green visitors' buoys (marked visitors). Rafting is necessary in the high season. No anchoring is permitted east of Durgan Bay or within 250m of the shore of the Bay or in Porth Navas Creek.

Situated on the western shore of Carrick Roads, this marina and boatyard have recently been extended amd comprises two substantial breakwaters, three inner pontoons and 250 moorings. 24 hour access with good shelter. There is a water taxi for the users of the mooring buoys. A 35 ton travelift and full range of repair facilities. Provisions, restaurant, bar and WiFi.

The club administers the mooring buoys off the Pandora Inn in Restronguet Creek. There is a pontoon at the pub which dries at low water. The food here can be recommended.

Temporary membership of the club is available to visiting yachts. The club may have moorings available for visitors to use; it is best to contact them in advance. Bar, restaurant.

A very friendly club on the waterfront by St Mawes harbour. It has excellent shower facilities. It also administers the 10 green visitors' bouys off the breakwater.
