Mikonos - Docking

Mooring in the old harbour in front of the town is no longer permitted, and yachts must berth in the marina, about 3.2 kms (two miles) north of the town. While this is a long way from town (it’s advisable if you don’t have bikes to hire a motorbike or car so you can get to town easily), there is plenty of space for berthing and more peaceful than being moored in the centre of the town.

The marina can be easily spotted as normally there are cruise ships tied up to the outer quay. Yachts berth in the eastern basin.

Warning: Be aware of strong gusts in this harbor with the Meltemi (up to F10!), normal winds in harbor are about 15-20KNS. Strong gusts can make mooring here rather difficult.

Go alongside or stern-to where you can find a suitable spot. During the summer months, there is a “Harbour Master” here who will advise you where to berth. Visiting yachts mainly berth in the southern part of the marina.

To get a berth in the marina, you must contact the Harbor Master at least 24 hours in advance, preferably by SMS (contact details and required information are listed below).

It is recommended to use the laid mooring lines provided. Problems can be encountered when using an anchor here as there are large mooring chains running parallel to the dock.

The marina has water and electricity points, although not all are reported to work. Fuel delivered daily by truck.

14.06.2018. When we came to new port harbour mater said to us: “No SMS — no place”. I found his number at Navionics and he explained that I should send SMS to his number before I arrive.

Also, they have website https://mykonosports.gr with more information. Marina is 2 miles away from old town. No free toilets and showers.

But there is a “maistros” place near the port that offers shower for 5EUR (they give towel and shampoo). Also, they have car rental (50eur Chevrolet Matiz) and bike rental (35eur 200cc).

I visited the Marina Mykonos in August 2017 with my Elan 38. The docks in the SE were rather full, but we found a place to tie up. There is a kind of harbourmaster, who advises you where to go.

It is recommended to call before you arrive, Nikos Rossolatos, Mob. +30 694 694 2091.
The docks are equipped with new moorings, water, and electricity on the waterfront.

The water supply was free, although there are slots for cards. Also, the berthing was free.
Care has to be taken of very strong northerly gusts, which can make docking quite tricky.

Ormos Kormou Ammos on Rinia, 37°25.6’N, 24°12.8’E, is suitable with light southerlies. Good snorkeling amongst the rocks and we were joined by a seal.

Leave early to grab a good anchorage at Delos, it soon fills up with tripper boats and cruise ships.
