Opening Hours

Most businesses are open 09:00-17:00 (Mon-Fri)

Marine businesses also open Saturdays, and some on Sundays too, especially during the sailing season.

Supermarkets open 7 days a week, often from 08:00 until 20:00 or later (Mon-Sat), Sundays hours are restricted to 10:00-16:00.

Pound sterling (£) of 100 pence.

International dialing code for the United Kingdom is +44

Wi-Fi is available at almost all harbours in the UK, sometimes at no charge. You can register and pay on-line for harbour Wi-Fi services and you will encounter some of the same companies in different areas. Internet is available at local public libraries and internet cafes and some marinas and harbour masters have an office internet-connected computer available.

Note: THE CENTRAL SOLENT
Due to the heavy amount of traffic using VHF channel 16 in this area, uniquely, an initial call to Solent Coastguard should be made on Ch 67 for routine traffic and radio checks.
Radio checks may, of course, be conducted on any working channel with other stations – marinas, yachts etc. Weather messages ... .

Mobile phones - easy access to the network coverage for every major UK mobile phone network, for both 3G and 2G systems. Prepaid SIM Card recommended for visitors to the UK

Transport

There are good transport facilities throughout the U.K.

Most towns and all major ports have a train station within a reasonable distance.

Small ports may only have a bus connection.

Rental cars are available everywhere.

Events

If visiting historic sites is planned, consider becoming a member of English Heritage (www.english-heritage.org.uk), or the National Trust (www.nationaltrust.org.uk), which, for a modest annual membership fee entitles you to free, or reduced cost, admission to a huge number of historic sites in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Many of these sites also hold annual concerts and events, see the websites for further details.

IMPORTANT INFO. FOR YACHTS VISITING THE UK
It is important to remember that the UK is not part of the Schengen Area Agreement, so it is necessary for any boat with non-EU nationals on board to clear with UK Immigration (many non-EU visitors would be granted a 6 month visitor's visa).
Failure to report means you are illegal immigrants!

EU citizens automatically have the right to stay (at the moment). The UK leaving the EU will change many regulations.

Non-EU citizens can only freely move within the Schengen Area (for 90 days in any 180 day period) once cleared into their first designated Schengen country. EU countries outside Schengen must be cleared into in the usual way.
