Description:
Newport is a popular New England summer resort, famous for its Mansions and watching the racing in the Bay from the Yacht Club lawn. It is the home of Salve Regina University and Naval Station Newport.. A major 18th century port city, Newport now contains among the highest number of surviving colonial buildings of any city in the USA.
It is also the major boating destination on the Atlantic coast and practically all marine facilities are to be found here.
This harbour is an important port of refuge. The approaches are well marked and entrance is possible both day and night. Note that fog is common here and the local racing clubs think nothing of racing in zero visibility conditions, so approach with extreme caution if entering the harbour at such a time.
