This large commercial port is located on the west coast at the southern end of the island.

This port must be visited first to clear into Okinawa.
It is important to call the Coast Guard 24 hours before arrival and fax the required forms to the Coast Guard, Customs and the Naha Port Authority.
On arrival be prepared to fill in an additional serious amount of paperwork!
Go to Ginowan Marina to complete clearance. The commercial port has no suitable berths for yachts.

The marina at Ginowan lies about 6nm north along the coast and is regarded as a safe typhoon berth.
An alternative, is the smaller marina at Itoman which lies about 10nm south of Naha.
The marina at Kadena (about 12nm north of Naha) is is part of a US Air Base and is only available to US military personnel. There are no guest berths.
Call the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 to advise them of your entry or exit from the marinas.
