Sweden - Documents
- For EU boats, proof of VAT status is required. It is useful to have an international certificate for pleasure craft. According to EC resolution Nr 13 ownership has to be proven.
- There is no national legislation on marine insurance, but marinas and harbours require insurance before lifting the boat.
- For boats bigger than 12×4 m a certificate of competence is required. No certificate required for smaller boats.
- Yachts must carry their original registration document and ship’s radio licence.
- One member of the crew must have a radio operator’s certificate of competence.
- To cruise outside Sweden, Swedish boats will need to register with the SVENSKA KRYSSARKLUBBEN See www.sxk.se to obtain the appropriate document.

We have just arrived in Gothenborg (25/05/23) from UK and cannot find anyone remotely interested in registering our boats arrival, because it is a leisure craft, and not commercial or carrying paid passengers. We have been round the hoses with Border Police, Customes, Marine Clearance, to no avail. Struggling to see how we are going to declare our arrival date as a means of validating for Returned Goods Relief on our return.
Go to the airport, police there will stamp your passport.
