Oman has a world-class health care system ranked as one of the best in the world. The largest hospitals in the country are located in Muscat, but medical clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies can be found throughout the country. Medical professionals almost always speak English.

Vaccine-Preventable Diseases:

CDC recommends to have vaccinations against Hepatitis A & B, Rabies and Typhoid.

A Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

Mosquito-borne Diseases:

Dengue, Leishmaniasis and Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever have been reported in Oman.

Prevention:

  • Use a repellent containing 20%-30% DEET or 20% Picaridin on exposed skin. Re-apply according to manufacturer’s directions.
  • Wear neutral-coloured (beige, light grey) long-sleeved clothing.
  • Pre-soak or spray outer layer clothing and gear with permethrin.
  • Ensure that hatch and window screens work properly.

Other Diseases:

There have been reports of MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome) in Oman.

Prescription Drugs:

Visitors are allowed to bring one month supply of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for personal use.

Medicine that does not contain controlled substances for personal use are also allowed provided that the prescribed quantity does not exceed 3 months.

A medical report regarding your medical condition or medical prescriptions prescribed by your doctor is required.

Make sure to carry documents of the medication usage and the prescribing physician information if your medication was in form of syringe (e.g. Insulin).

Just want to note on UAE you mention that the Gulf of Oman and sailing area from Muscat Oman, around the beautiful Musandam Peninsular and into the Arabian Gulf, are quite safe which they are, and I thought it should be mentioned here on the Oman page as well.

I have visited Salalah in March 2014. Great surprise – you need an agent to come inside the port. It cost 200-300 USD. You need to have 3rd party liability insurance, if not – you’ll be fined (130USD). Port fees were about 200 USD (including water).

You can fill diesel, an agent will help you to agree with BP office. Staying alongside near Port control tower. There is a shop for provisioning inside the port with free delivery onboard. So, very expensive country, if you have enough diesel and water, go directly to much more friendly Aden.
