Culebra : Profile
Culebra and Vieques are commonly known as the "Spanish Virgin Islands". These islands are still relatively undeveloped and many think they represent what the Caribbean was 30 years ago. There are many beautiful anchorages and dive spots, with empty and pristine beaches.
Culebra is a popular weekend tourist destination, especially known for its crystal clear water.
Many of the small islands around Isla Culebra are nature reserves and restrictions must be observed.
Position 18°18’N, 65°17’W.
Boats enter Ensenada Honda (Big Harbour) then should proceed to the head and anchor in sand just west of Cayo Pirata.
If arriving from the US or British Virgin Islands, all yachts must clear in. For clearance, one should anchor off the main town of Dewey, which is in the narrowest part of the isthmus. Dinghies can be left at the town dock which is west of the Dinghy Dock Restaurant. Clearance is done at the airport, a fair walk away.
March 2010, US cruisers reported that it was possible to clear in by phone - call 787-729-6840. This works with or without a customs decal.

Ensenada Honda is very well protected by its reef, and is about a mile and a half long. It has several quiet coves with a reasonable depth of water and good holding.
Groceries, including fresh fruit and vegetables, are easily obtainable at Milka, a grocry store southwest of the canal through Dewey.
