Docking
This attractive town is in one of the most sheltered natural harbors in the northern islands. It sits in the part of the island where it narrows.
The harbor can be entered from either the west coast or from the east, through the Prolaz Privlaka, an artificial canal. The canal is 3m deep and is spanned by a swing bridge which opens twice a day (9 am and 6 pm). As the canal is only 7m wide, significant waves can build up in strong winds.
Also be aware that the current between Losinj and Cres can be significant. A survey in advance of entering is advisable.
There are waiting for buoys at the southern end of the canal.
This long harbor has a fetch of about 3nm, so in northerly winds, some berths can be uncomfortable.
There is a marina north of the canal, one south of the canal and the old marina in town. An early arrival is recommended as this is a popular stop for yachts.
In town, there are also 2 quays where yachts can moor. The west quay is just in front of the Port Captain’s office, north of the YC Marina. Yachts can go alongside here for clearance and/or overnight in 5-6m.
The quay on the E side of the harbor, which used to be too low for use by yachts, has now been improved and mooring rings installed. Yachts can go alongside in 3-4m.
Both these quays tend to subject to wash from commercial traffic.
There is nowhere to anchor here.
Susak
This small, green island lies just 6nm to the west of Mali Losinj. There is a good anchorage in the sheltered bay on its eastern side. The small port here has two grocery stores; the larger one being at the harbor. There is also a fish market and a post office. In addition, LPG is available.
