Leixoes (Oporto) : Profile
Visit marina office with passports and ships papers whether berthed in the marina or anchored off to fill in necessary paperwork
The sand bar which used to exist at the entrance to the River Douro has now been removed and two new breakwaters are being built. A new marina is expected to be built here.
The deep water channel is on the north side. For both mooring and clearance, it is best to use the yachting facilities in the commercial port of Leixoes, which can be entered under most conditions and has a marina and three yacht clubs. It is no longer possible to dock in Porto itself, due to the destruction of the floating pontoon in Gaia on the south bank of the Douro River.
It has been reported that it is possible to moor on the north shore by the quay, 300m from the Effeil Bridge, though the tidal stream is still strong here.
Repair facilities for yachts are restricted to the area around the marina in Leixoes. Either the local yacht club or the port captain's office are the best source of information on the facilities available. Most workshops are for commercial vessels, but they could work on a yacht if necessary.
