Explore: Frisian Islands – Netherlands
General Info
The Frisian Islands (also known as the Wadden Islands or the Wadden Sea Islands), are part of the Netherlands and are an archipelago that stretches from the NW of the Netherlands pas Germany to the western edge of Denmark. The islands separate the shallow Wadden Sea (large parts of which dry out at low tide) from the North Sea.
The westernmost islands of Texel and Vlieland are Dutch speaking and those further north are Danish-speaking.
Most of the archipelago are environmentally protected areas, and an international wildlife nature reserve is in the planning. Natural gas and oil drilling is common here.
A very useful article on sailing in the swatchways around these islands was sent to Noonsite by a local sailor and can be found here.

YachtFlags.com provides high quality courtesy flags that are manufactured in durable Knitted Polyester fabric. Knitted so that the fabric itself does not deteriorate in the constant movement that marine flags are usually exposed to, and polyester so that the flag does not weaken in the strong UV-light usually found in the main sailing areas of the world.
