Connections are with a three flat pin plug.  As electricity is generated by large diesel generators, power surges are common so the use of surge protection devices is recommended.

Fuel is only available by jerry can from fuel stations.

Opening Hours

Normal opening hours are 9am to 5pm.

Most shops close Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and some all day Saturaday and Sunday.

Money

Australian dollar (Aus$)

There are two banks on the island, Westpac Bank & Commonwealth Bank, at Burnt Pine.  Open Monday to Thursday 09:30 am.- 4 pm. Friday 09:30 to 5 pm.

There is an ATM at the Commonwealth Bank.

Major credit cards are accepted at most places.

International dialing code for Norfolk Island is +672.

There are 2 internet cafes in Taylors Road.

For telephone and fax services, Norfolk Telecom is open Monday to Friday 09:30am - 10:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday 09:00 am - 12 noon and 3pm-6pm.

Mobile phone service is available on Norfolk Island by purchasing a local sim card.

Postal and fax services, phonecards and a Philatelic Bureau are available at Norfolk Post in Burnt Pine. Open Monday to Friday.

Norfolk Island has its own stamp and postal service.

Transport

There is no public transport but taxis and car hire are available. A current driver's licence is required and the miniumum age for renting a car is 21 years. Driving is on the left.

There are 170km of road around Norfolk. The speed limit is 40km/h in town, 25km/h in the national park and along the waterfront at Kingston. Everywhere else is 50km/h. Warning - wandering cattle have the right of way.

The airport is located SW of Burnt Pine.

Currently there are several flights a week run by Air New Zealand (www.airnewzealand.co.nz) This is due to change in 2017, probably to Austrailian Airlines.
