Barranquilla : Profile
Arriving yachts should dock wherever possible, then ask for a berthing assignment from the port captain. The yacht clubs have limited space, and anchoring is not possible in the busy river. It may be necessary to come alongside the commercial dock. The port captain's office should be visited first.
Note from John Halley, Club Nautico, Cartagena: Barranquilla is considered by some as the centre of the Atlantic drug cartel operations and for the time being I would not recommend that cruisers stop there (incl. entrance to Rio Magdalena, Punta Hermosa, Puerto Colombia). Cruisers have found the 5 bays (North of Sta. Marta) beautiful and welcoming. So, from Rodadero(South of Sta. Marta) plan a non-stopper to Cartagena which as always will provide cruisers with a safe/warm welcome.
