A report on a Facebook page for French Poly Cruisers states that on the night of May 14 (a Saturday night), two boats had their outboards stolen while anchored in the area between marina Taina and the Intercontinental Hotel.

One dinghy and an outboard were stolen from a yacht at anchor between marina Taina and Vaira’i Park.  The dinghy was later recovered, minus the paddles and a Yamaha 4cv 2 stroke outboard motor.

The other outboard was stolen from the dinghy of a yacht at anchor in Punaauia, also near the Hotel Intercontinental.

The report from the Group’s administrator says that while the incidents were disappointing, thefts like this have been rare, occuring only once in another bay in the previous two and a half years.

Cruisers in the area are advised to lift and lock dinghys at night if concerned about security issues.
