Tanzania - Pets
Health and vaccination certificates are required prior to the importation of pets to Tanzania. Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies at least one month and not more than 3 years prior to entry.
The Director of Veterinary Services of Tanzania’s Ministry of Water and Livestock Development should be contacted in writing to request an import permit. The applicant must include the following information in this letter: the type/breed of the pet, its age, port of entry, and attach its immunization records.

The following vaccinations are required:
1. DHLP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, and Parvo) Puppies should be vaccinated when they are 5-7 weeks old with repeat vaccinations 2 and 6 weeks later.
2. Rabies vaccination should be administered with the third vaccination.
3. Vaccination for worms should be done every three months or pets should be given worm tablets every 45 days.
Note:
Animals can only be imported at designated ports in Tanzania.
Animals are subject to examination by a veterinarian at the port of entry and subject to quarantine if need be.
Get an export permit if you wish to bring your pet back with you.

KILWA – Anchor near the port as this is manned by the navy and there are always people watching or on watch. Hoist your dinghy every night. Outboards (a.k.a. machines) are very nickable. The tour to the unesco world heritage site at Kilwa Island is very worth doing – go to the TAWA office and get a permit and they will arrange a guide.
