Restrictions for Yachts in The French Subantarctic Territory
The French Austral Islands have been classified as a national nature reserve since 2006. Certain areas have enhanced protection status (Strictly Protected Areas, Enhanced Marine Protection Zones, or Sites Reserved for Scientific and Technical Research). Access to Strictly Protected Areas and Sites Reserved for Scientific and Technical Research is prohibited . Fishing is prohibited within Enhanced Marine Protection Zones, as is the dumping of waste, including organic waste.
In July 2019, the entire perimeter of the national nature reserve was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Anchoring of pleasure craft in the territorial sea of Crozet, Kerguelen and Saint-Paul and Amsterdam and access to the islands are limited and strictly regulated.
