Customs Rules for Yachts Arriving/Departing the Channel Islands

Customs for Yachts pre-arrival in the Channel Islands:

All dutiable goods must be declared to Customs. This now includes yachts permanently imported into the islands by a person or company registered there. No prohibited or restricted goods to be imported without the relevant licence.

Customs forms must be completed on arrival (see Clearance for details).

Length of Stay:

Yachts can remain under the Islands’ Temporary Importation scheme. This is a separate scheme to that of the EU. There is no limit to the number of times this is applied.

Yachts permanently imported into Jersey (not the other islands) are now subject to a 5% tax (GST).

Other Customs Information:

There are banned and restricted goods in both Jersey and Guernsey. Use the following links for more information:

Duty-free (red) diesel is still available to yachts in the Channel Islands, but if leaving the islands for the U.K. or another EU country, it is essential to retain the receipts to prove where it was purchased. Duty-free (red) diesel should only be carried in the main tank.

Duty-free goods are available to local and visiting craft upon departure from St Helier.

The independent operator ‘Boat Fayre’ provides a door-to-door ordering and delivery service to yachts. For more information or to place an order, telephone +44 (0) 7797 859 592.

The Government of Jersey website provides more information on personal duty-free allowances for alcohol, tobacco, and other goods upon arrival in Jersey.
