Anchor east of Stearn’s Wharf in less than 30′. Bottom can be hard and may take a couple of tries to get the anchor to grab. Also, we have picked up unused chain on the bottom, so a trip line is a good ideal.
You can tie your dingy, climb the ladders at the wharf and go ashore, as that seems to be what everyone else does. There is also a courtesy dock in the Harbor with a 15 minute free tie-up — West Marine is a the top of the gangway. You can tie longer with the permission of the harbor patrol or rent a daily dingy slip for a fee.
The weather in this anchorage is usually very calm, however, there can be a surprising amount of roll here. Set your anchor well before going ashore. Avoid anchoring in the area of the pipeline, which is clearly identified on the charts. We’ve heard of harbor patrol asking people to move for anchoring too close to it.
